If you are a fan of my business on Facebook, then you have no doubt heard me talk about my ever-growing stone collection. When it comes to stones and gems, I have a stone cold obsession! I love them all. It’s really an addiction, I should really try to resist, but they are all so pretty! Sorry, that sounded a bit silly, but I can’t help become excited when I think about all the amazing natural beauty that is encapsulated in one stone.
I have wanted to share with you blog readers some of my collection, since I work from home and the only person I have to obsess over my stones with is my less-than-interested-boyfriend. I need some sharing time with a more enthusiastic audience. How about it? Here are a few of my faves:
TOMORROW : I asked my lovely and talented friend from Suite One Studio to answer the question: What inspires you the most? Check-in tomorrow to see her work AND her answer!
Wow. It’s been an incredible first week at this new website! So many of you sweet peas have given me a shout-out letting me know how much you love the new format and look! I’d like to extend a great big thank you to the talented designer behind the blog, Valerie Parizeault from Rose Flash Studios, who worked with me to come up with a site that is perfectly in tune with my business and brand.
In the meanwhile, over here on the blog, I’m going to be posting more, or at least trying to keep up. But I would really like to know what you guys would like to see more of in these posts. So please take a moment and let me know by answering the following poll:
Ok, now on to the news you’ve all bee waiting for! The WINNER of the anatomical heart giveaway!!! the big winner is: Amy Grainer June!!! congrats, Amy, please contact me so I can send you your necklace!!!
Now, I’ve been trying to get a photo up capturing the number generated alongside the excel sheet I had with all the contestants, but because my laptop died and my internet is down I don’t have access to the applications I’m used to, and it’s gotten me all in a tizzy, so I’m not going to share it, BUT if you would like proof, I would be happy to send it to you via e-mail at request.
One of my very favorite things to do in the world is listen to the radio. I especially love listening in the morning with a hot mug of coffee and a newspaper. My favorite radio show is Q, which is on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company). Q is an incredible show which addresses Canadian and worldwide cultural topics of every kind. I can always rely on Q for thought provoking and insightful interviews and debates. Serious and lighthearted alike. A few days ago Jian ghomeshi, the host of Q, was interviewing Eve Ensler who is the briliant mind behind the Vagina Monologues. The interview moved me on so many levels. As Ensler related her struggle with Cancer to her global campaign to stop violence against women, I realized how so many women in this world don’t enjoy the freedom of peace of mind that I do. Many women are surrounded by violence, and are victimized through and because of their womanhood. This realization moved me to create “Female Pelvic Bone Piece” . The pelvic area of a woman can be the source of life, power, pride and respect, yet it is also strategic area where the violence against women is aimed at. I wanted to regain that respect and take back that section of our body and own it.
These last two weeks have been the busiest since Markhed was founded. The Featured Seller article in Etsy’s Blog, has given us a boost into the spotlight and it’s been such a positive experience! I hear from so many amazing people, and I think I’ve managed to respond to each and everyone of you that have written me. Whether it be by contacting me on etsy, e-mail, facebook or twitter.
From all the pieces I had the pleasure of making, I have made quite a few custom orders. I LOVE doing custom orders, because it gives me a chance to experiment and try out ideas that I would never have thought of on my own. I also find working with customers on custom orders is such a pleasure, I KNOW that these customers will cherish their beautiful pieces forever, because it was made just for them.
I wanted to share two pieces that I made on request for two wonderful women, and which, have made it to my permanent collection. Click on the images if you are interested in purchasing.
I hope you like them!
