One piece of advice regarding having my own business that has made the most sense to me and that I’ve really taken to heart is to: keep up to date in your field. I feel like this is especially true when you are in the design field. It’s always good to keep up with new trends and to keep up a constant dialogue with the art world. No artist, or designer can be on their own island, our work is a constant reflection of the culture that we live in. To deny this, is to deny the very essence of our humanity.
With this in mind, I have amassed a plethora of design, art, fashion and news blogs on my google reader that I try with all earnestness to read through every day. When I see an image that I find particularly interesting I “pin it” onto a visual bookmarking site called pinterest (click on the link to follow my boards and inspiration on pinterest).
Over the last months I see so many images a day, I’ve become seriously picky on what I pin. If I pinned everything that was even slightly nice, it would be completely pointless, since most of the images on these blogs are stunning. So, I only pin an image when it stops me in my tracks. Here’s where I get to this painting. This painting has absolutely stopped me in my tracks, in a way that hasn’t happened in a LONG time. Hera by Tom Bagshaw is haunting and beautiful. The subject seems to pierce you with her sad gaze. I love it! How does it make you feel?

I adore these illustrations by Nicoz Balboa. I think they fall under the category of pop surrealism, but I’m not sure. Whatever they are, I adore their feel and look. Especially the first one with the zebra in it.
